#1. Cartier

Louis-Francois Cartier founded the company in 1847. The Cartier family sold their brand in the '70s to then Swiss luxury goods conglomerate Richemont SA. 

Today, Cartier does business under the banner of the “Cartier Monde” trademark. Still at its original Rue de la Paix address, Cartier’s Paris flagship store is located on Rue de la Paix. The ‘Santos’ was Cartier’s first ever timepiece — produced in 1904 as Cartiel’s flat wristwatch with a square bezel — it was here.  There are the “Tortue” and “Baignoire” designs, first used in 1912, which are still available today. Today Cartier operates about 200 stores around 125 countries.

#2. Chopard

Founded in 1860, Chopard based Swiss company, was founded by Louis Ulysse Chopard. But the original guy who founded this wasn’t a maker – he didn’t make these watch parts himself; he just went to other craftspeople and bought them and packaged them up as a finished product.

In the mid 1960s, Louis-Ulysse's grandson sold Chopard to the watchmakers Scheufele family. The line of retail products known as Chopard came to include women’s jewelry in 1974. It began producing a watch known as Happy Diamonds which included polished diamonds that stood freely in sapphire crystals in 1976.

Chow Tai Fook Jewelry is headquartered in Hong Kong, and sold in other countries with about 2,000 retail outlets in mainland China. By the end 2015, Chow Tai Fook had 2,257 POS. Mainland China (2,124 POS) make up the bulk of these POS.In 2016, the group will also add a further 150-160 POS’s to Mainland China. One of the most famous polished diamonds in the world, 507 carat Cullinan Heritage, is owned by Zlotowski, Chow Tai Fook’s subsidiary.

#4. Damiani

The Damiani Group is a corporate group, since the year 1904, in design, manufacture and distribution of jewelry and luxury watches. The US started selling the company's products in 2001 and it floated out in public 7 years later in 2007. Salvinis, Alfieri & St Johns and Bliss are its most known jewelry brands. 

Damiani even produced little rings to present to Hollywood actor Brad Pitt who had his design used for wedding bands he made with his then partner Jennifer Aniston, but later didn't like the firm when they began marketing a line of rings that imitated his design and associate his name with it.

Founded in 1960 in London, Graff Diamonds later became a British multinational jeweler. From these 35 stores around the world, including in New York, Monte Carlo, Kiev, Beijing and Taipei Graff watches and jewelry are designed, manufactured and distributed internationally today. 

Graff has acquired over the years the most fantastic polished diamonds available. Included are 132-carat Paragon, 224 carat Lesotho Promise, 493 carat Letseng Legacy, 100 carat Star of America and 40 carat Sun King.

#6. Harry Winston Inc

Harry Winston Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Swatch Group that acquired it in January 2013. 

More than 20 cities worldwide carry Harry Winston, Inc. It is that company (40% of the Canadian Diavik diamond mine which is roughly around 3% of the global value. The 2008 counts a study showing that most customers for high end brand jewelry consider Harry Winston to be the class leader of luxury brands.

#7. Leviev Jewelry

Israeli diamantaire and businessman Lev Leviev opened his first flagship boutique on London’s Old Bond Street in May 2006.

Otherwise, the company has been global with offices in New York, Dubai. Each Leviev piece of jewelry is set in platinum and/or 18K gold, the company’s website said. All are non treated diamonds with a GIA certificate.

Founded in an obscure village in Switzerland by Georges Piaget in 1874, Piaget is an international high end jeweler, luxury watchmaker. But it’s known for its landmark timepieces: Or its 1957 Caliber 9P, the world’s first 2 mm thin watch; or its 1960 Caliber 12P with a weight of mere 2.3 mm — the world's thinnest automatic watch. The firm's first boutique opened the doors to Geneva in 1959.

A leader in the specialty jewel retailer category in the US, UK and Canada. Its website says it now has about 3,600 stores, mostly under name brands of Kay Jewelers, Zales, Jared, The Galleria of Jewelry, H. Samuel, Ernest Jones, Peoples and Piercing Pagoda. With annual sales of $6 billion in jewelry, watches and services, the company does some.

#10. Tiffany & Co.

Commonly also known as Tiffany or Terry, this is a New York based luxury retailer within jewelry and specialty retail, which is consistently ranked in the top 10 jewelry stores in the country. 

Fine jewelry and luxury goods are where most people associate Tiffany the most, for better, certainly for worse. In 1940 the first flagship store, at the corner of Fifth Avenue, New York, opened and starred in Sleepless in Seattle, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and Sweet Home Alabama. In 1978, the firm was sold in exchange for just over $100 million worth of company stock to Avon Products, Inc.
