• A string or a paper strip stuck at hand can be used. Here’s how:

• Cut a Strip: At home, I’ll find a handy piece of string or cut a strip of the paper lying about. Make sure it is about 100 millimeters long.

• Mark the Overlap: Determine (mark) the point where the paper or string overlap.

• Measure the Length: Mark the length of the strip with a ruler to the millimetre.

Use Gauge Rings 

If you go to a jeweler or online, gauge rings come in incremental sizes. 

• Acquire a Set: Alternatively, the gauge rings can be purchased as a set or loaned from a jewellers. Normally they have rings in varying sizes in the sets.
